The Digestive System
The pupose of the digestive system is to digest food (the process of breaking down food so it can be easily absorbed. The gastrointestinal track is the main part of this system.

Teeth
The teeth are a structure in the mouth that are harder than bones. Thier job is to grind up food before digestion. The average adult has 32 teeth (including wisdom teeth).
Mouth and Esophagus
The mouth is the "entry to the alimentary canal"* that is used for eating and speaking. The esophagus brings food down to the stomach. It is a muscular tube.
Stomach
The stomach is an elastic organ that is lined with gastric juice (acid that digests food). It is connected to the esophagus and the duodenum.
Liver and Pancreas
the liver is the largest organ in the body weighing 3 pounds. This organ, holds vitamins and minerals, processes toxins and makes bile. It also takes up the right upper abdomen. The pamcreas is an elongated organ that is under the stomach. This produces insulin and glucagon, both hormones that regulate blood sugar.
Intestines
The intstines make up 80% of a digestive system. They are located in the lower part of your abdomen. First there is the small intestine, it is 22ft long and digests food and absorbs nutrients. Next there is the large intestine it's 5ft long. It's job is to absorb water and concetrate waste.
Diabetes
Diabetes is caused when a person can't produce large quantities of insulin. It causes high blood sugar and is treaked with insulin injections
